Version 1.1
Our commitment
Packlyn Canada wants everyone to be able to design and print with Packlyn, including people with disabilities. This statement describes the accessibility work we have done in Packlyn Design Software, the limitations we know about, and how to tell us about a barrier or ask for information in another format.
We look to Ontario's Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA) and the federal Accessible Canada Act as guides for how we approach accessibility. This statement describes what we have done so far. It is not a claim that the app conforms to any accessibility standard.
What this statement covers
This statement covers Packlyn Design Software for Windows and macOS, including the account screens inside the app, and the online version, which is the same app running in a web browser at https://accounts.packlyn.ca/app/. It does not cover our website, https://packlyn.ca, or parts run by other companies, such as the secure card form that Square provides on Packlyn's payment page.
What we have done
- Keyboard navigation: many of the app's menus, panels, forms and dialogs can be reached and used with a keyboard. While a dialog is open, keyboard focus stays inside it, and most dialogs can be closed with the Escape key.
- Visible focus: when you move through the app with a keyboard, the item that has focus is clearly outlined, so you can see where you are.
- Reduced motion: when the reduce motion setting on your computer is turned on, the app turns off or shortens its animations, including the animations of the Plyn assistant.
- Labelled controls: buttons, fields and other controls have text labels, which assistive technologies such as screen readers can use to describe them.
- Colour contrast: we have worked on the colour contrast of text and controls in the app's own interface to make them easier to read.
Known limitations
We want to be honest about what does not work as well as it should yet.
The design canvas is visual
Making a design means placing, moving, resizing and arranging objects on a visual canvas. Some of these tasks need a mouse, trackpad or other pointing device, and a screen reader can't describe a design the way it looks. Template previews and design thumbnails are also mainly visual.
Colours in your designs are your choice
Our colour contrast work applies to the app's own interface, not to the designs you make. If your design needs to be easy to read for people with low vision or colour vision differences, please check the contrast between your text and background colours yourself.
No formal audit
We have not had the app formally audited or certified against the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) or any other accessibility standard, and we do not claim that it conforms to one. There may be barriers we haven't found yet, and we have not formally tested the app with every assistive technology.
The online version depends on your browser
The online version uses the same screens as the desktop app, so the work and the limitations described here apply to it too. How well it works with assistive technology also depends on your web browser and its settings.
Other companies' forms
Card details are entered in a secure card form provided by Square on Packlyn's payment page. Square runs that form, and we don't control how accessible it is. If you have trouble paying, contact us and we will try to help, for example by arranging the payment directly with Packlyn, in the shop or by Interac e-Transfer.
Getting help and alternative formats
If you have difficulty using any part of Packlyn Design Software, or you need one of our documents in another format, please contact us:
- In the app: My Account › Help › Message Packlyn Canada
- Email: packlyncanada@gmail.com (please put "Accessibility" in the subject line)
- Contact page: https://packlyn.ca/contact/
On request, we will provide our legal and policy documents, including this statement, in another format. Tell us what works best for you, and we will work with you to provide it.
If you find the "Print With Packlyn" quote request form hard to use, tell us, and we will work with you to find another way to get your quotation.
Someone else, such as a support person or a family member, is welcome to contact us on your behalf.
Sending feedback
Your feedback helps us decide what to improve. If you can, please tell us:
- what you were trying to do
- where in the app it happened
- whether you use Windows, macOS or the online version (and which web browser), and the version of the app
- any assistive technology you use, such as a screen reader, screen magnifier or voice control
You don't have to give all of these details. Share whatever you are comfortable with. We use the information you send only to respond to you and to improve accessibility, as described in our Privacy Policy.
We will reply to your message. If we can't fix a problem right away, we will try to suggest another way to get your task done.
Our ongoing work
We consider accessibility when we change the app or add new features, and we use the feedback we receive to decide what to work on next. We will update this statement as the app changes. Each version has an effective date and a version number, and you can find the current version in the app under Legal and Policies.
